Race Routes
The 8mi race route will start at the base of Gunstock Mountain Resort's ski slopes and take runners along wide XC trails before climbing up to and along the ridge linking Mts. Rowe (1680ft) and Gunstock (2250ft). Runners will climb a total of approx. 2200ft along this course. The race will finish with a challenging single track descent back to the base. The 5km race route will start and finish at the same point as the 8mi and take runners along Gunstock's XC and single track snowshoe trails. Course maps will be released in advance of the race. Conditions and Weather
Late spring is a magnificent time of year to run in the New England Mountains. Runners should understand that trails will include dry, muddy, and slick surfaces along both 8mi and 5km routes. These are quintessential New England trails, meaning that they are rooty, rocky, gnarly, and just plain beautiful. Portions of the route will take runners up and down relatively steep and technical sections. Please use caution as you descend and in general at every point along the course. This section will be updated as necessary with likely trail conditions and recommended gear.
Venue and Travel
Gunstock Mountain Resort is just under 2 hours from Boston/Portland, 1 hour from Portsmouth, and 45 minutes from Concord. That makes for an easy Saturday morning drive for a race at 10am.
Benefiting Belknap Range Trail Tenders
All proceeds from this event will be donated to the Belknap Range Trail Tenders (BRATTS). BRATTS is an independent volunteer supported trail maintenance organization that keeps the Belknap Range trails in tip top shape. Your race registration will support their important work of building, protecting, and repairing these trails. Continued maintenance and use will support conservation efforts and ensure these lands remain accessible for future generations' adventure and enjoyment.
